Day one in Gabon, feels good to be underway at last.
Surprisingly, we had an easier time getting into Gabon than
we did leaving the United States. Between bizarre airline policies, mechanical
issues, flight delays, and broken airport shuttles, it seemed like we were going to miss flights at each
step of our trip. However, once we landed in Libreville, we traveled smoothly
through customs, got all of our bags, and were out of the airport only an hour
after we landed.
Two of our Gabonese collaborators met us at the airport and drove us to the IRAF office where we're storing field gear while we're in the city. From there we drove through the city, enjoying the warm air and watching flocks of bats, to the home of our Couchsurfing hosts.
We’ll be in Libreville for a few days to meet with our
Gabonese collaborators and get the last supplies we need before heading out
into the field.
